What does a receipt-backed consumer review actually prove?

The short answer

A receipt can support a consumer’s account of a purchase. It does not by itself prove that a document is authentic, that the service was delivered as described, or that an opinion is representative. Evident does not currently mark transactions as independently verified.

Two evidence labels, different meanings

materials_reviewed means a human reviewer reviewed submitted supporting materials before publication. self_reported means an eligible account’s statement was automatically published under platform checks. Both labels describe a publication basis, not a guarantee of truth. Keep these groups separate when interpreting ratings.

How to read one experience

Read the original wording, submission and update dates, incentive disclosure and any supplied product, variant or usage context. A missing dimension score means not rated, not zero. A positive hotel-stay experience cannot establish the quality of every room or future stay.

What remains private

Receipt files are required for contributions and remain private. Public readers and read-only Agents receive published feedback and evidence labels, not the underlying receipt or private account details. Evidence is retained under the privacy policy; a public citation must point to the review page rather than a receipt.

How disagreements are handled

Use the review policy and support channel to report concerns. A merchant response supplies another perspective; it is not an independent verification of either party’s claims. Reviewers cannot approve their own submissions.
